2024, Oil on paper
29,7 x 21 cm
At first glance, the works on paper may appear to use a vocabulary that has already been used many times in art history. But Behrendt appropriates it in her own way. He is a thoroughly empirical artist who does not think through the forms but works through them. He uses the basic artistic elements for his fundamental painting practice, which is primarily about the aura and magic of oil. The application of the paint is a special feature. Behrendt doesn't just paint dots, lines, circles and rectangles. He prepares his works carefully and applies the oil paint to the paper using complex masking and layering procedures. The composition and inherent movement of the material interact and lead to great material density and color intensity. Here the painting also shows its tactile quality on the paper.
