J.J. Heckenhauer was founded in 1823 in Tuebingen, South Germany as a publishing house and
rare book store. Roger Sonnewald took over the family business in the 6th generation, in 1997 he established the gallery J. J. Heckenhauer and relocated it to Berlin and Brussels. Since 2014 it is now located in Munich, we have just moved to our new space opposite the Museum Brandhorst.
The gallery's programme includes international contemporary art (paintings, drawings and photography) with a focus on emerging artists from Berlin, Leipzig and Munich on the one hand, and reknown artists from Switzerland and Belgium f.e.
Besides contemporary art we also offer secondary market works, primarily 20th century.
