Eibenschütz / Ivancice 1860 - 1939 Prag
Poster for: Le "Salon des Cent"
1896, Lithograph printed in five colours: Beige, dark olive-green, carmine-red, olive-grey and gold, on Japanese paper
61.5 : 40 cm
The poster “Salon des Cent” shows a young woman in profile with long, flowing, decoratively stylized hair that takes up a large part of the picture in sweeping lines. She wears a wide hat with a veil and holds one hand to her lips in a calm, thoughtful gesture. The background is designed with ornamental shapes and lettering, so that the image and text form a harmonious whole. The clear contours, flat coloring, and elegant lines are typical features of Art Nouveau and give the work its decorative effect. Very good print with beautiful color effect.
Alphonse Mucha is one of the most important Art Nouveau artists of around 1900. He became famous above all for his posters, illustrations, and decorative designs featuring idealized female figures and floral ornaments. In Paris, he worked for theaters, exhibitions, and publishers and developed a distinctive visual language that had a major influence on the graphic design and advertising of his time.
One of 50 copies of the deluxe edition, the first of two variants of the original poster version. Printed by F. Champenois, Paris. Splendid fresh impression before the text.
