The gallery's focus is on works of art from the Classical Modern period, selected contemporary art and internationally significant positions of post-war art from the second half of the 20th century. Influential solo exhibitions of recent years include Max Liebermann, Heinrich Zille, Jacques Lipchitz, E.L. Kirchner, Fritz Klimsch, Wilhelm Busch, Otto Modersohn, Horst Janssen, Lyonel Feininger, Frank Auerbach, Pablo Picasso, Joan Miro, Alexej von Jawlensky, Horst Antes, Sam Francis and Otto Piene.
